Tough Day in the Gong for the Sharks
It was a challenging afternoon for us at Macedonia Park as we went down 4-0 to Wollongong Wolves. Despite a promising start and a solid first-half showing where we controlled much of the ball and created a couple of early chances, we couldn’t find the back of the net and were made to pay in the second half.
Richard Shoueiki and Peter Grozos both went close early on, testing Wollongong’s keeper Oliver Yates, while our defence held firm to keep the Wolves quiet before the break. The scoreline remained locked at 0-0 at half-time, with everything to play for.
But it was the home side who came out firing after the restart. Wollongong took the lead just three minutes into the second half through Lachlan Scott, and while they were reduced to 10 men shortly after when Raphael Le’ai was sent off, the Wolves seemed to lift rather than falter.
We continued to push, but as the game opened up, Wollongong took their chances clinically. A penalty from Nicholas Olsen in the 82nd minute gave them breathing room, before Scott grabbed his second soon after. Alex Masciovecchio added a fourth deep into stoppage time to seal the result for the hosts.
It was a disappointing scoreline for us, especially considering the promising moments we had throughout the match. But as always, we’ll review, regroup, and come back stronger. We know there’s still plenty of football left to play this season—and we’ll keep fighting to turn things around.
We appreciate the travelling support and look forward to bouncing back next week.
