Shoueiki Stunner: We Hold Firm To Beat Spirit 1-0 At Home
NPL NSW Men's | Round 16
In wet and difficult conditions at Seymour Shaw, we picked up a hard-earned three points on Saturday night, with Richard Shoueiki's stunning long-range strike the difference in a tight, physical contest against NWS Spirit FC.
Yuto Kokuryo sliding in
Spirit made life uncomfortable for us in the opening stages, dominating large portions of the first half and could have easily found themselves ahead. Kaan Nizam had a shot cleared off the line early on, and for long stretches of the half the visitors looked the more dangerous side.
Takumi Ofuka being pressed
To our credit, we stayed organised, kept our shape, and made sure Danijel Nižić wasn't tested too heavily between the sticks despite the pressure.
The breakthrough came in the 76th minute and was worth the wait. Shoueiki, finding space 30 yards out on a rain-soaked pitch, unleashed a strike into the bottom corner that gave the keeper no chance. It was a stunning finish and the kind of moment that can turn a difficult night into a memorable one. After absorbing so much of the ball, the counter came at exactly the right time.
Richard Shoueiki in the rain
Spirit pushed hard for an equaliser but we nearly put the result beyond doubt late on, when Takumi Ofuka found Nick Olsen in behind on the left. Olsen was denied at the last by Marques inside the area, and a Kosta Petratos effort was deflected wide, but we held firm and saw it out for a clean sheet.
A drenched Perko pushing the boys on
It was bodies-on-the-line defending as every player threw themselves in front of the ball to earn that win.
Three points on a wet Saturday night, against a Spirit side who came here with intent. We were missing a few familiar faces, which made the result all the more pleasing. Shoueiki was the difference on the night and deserved every bit of the reception he got.

Our drive to push into the top half of the table is still on as we sit just 1 point behind WSW in 6th. Focus shifts to this weekend as we face Sydney United 58 FC.
