We Fall Short At Penshurst In Hard-Fought 1-0 Defeat
NPL NSW Men's | Round 14
We went down 1-0 away to St George City FA at a cold and smoky Penshurst Park on Saturday night, conceding a headed goal in the 70th minute after a competitive but frustrating 90 minutes that we couldn't find a way to finish.

St George City FA came out with a clear game plan, setting up in a disciplined five-man defensive block and looking to frustrate us in the early stages. Nick Olsen was lively from the off, cutting into the box and winning a strong handball appeal that the referee waved away. Richard Shoueiki and Jordan Perez also worked hard to build pressure, but found a well-organised back line hard to break down. The best chance of the half came deep in stoppage time when Lachlan MacDonald rose to meet a corner and forced a brilliant reaction save from keeper Jack Kenny, one of those moments that, on another night, changes the game.
Perko giving out his orders
St George City FA came out the sheds with a lot more intent in the second half, starting to pin us deeper and build sustained spells of pressure. A penalty shout for a foul on Ahmad Taleb in the 57th minute went their way, but the referee wasn't interested. Shoueiki kept driving forward and created danger with a sharp run past Mason Tatafu, though his cross went unconverted. We were in the contest, but the goal we needed wouldn't come.

It did come at the other end. In the 70th minute, a well-worked move ended with Matthew Jackson delivering a cross to the back post, where Dohmoto got above everyone to power a header past Nižić. It was a deserved reward for St George City FA's persistence, and a tough one to concede after we'd defended well for so long.
Danijel Nižić making another great save
We threw ourselves forward in the final stages, including some strong penalty appeals that the referee again left unanswered, but St George City FA held firm. Full credit to them. On our end, Shoueiki and Olsen both worked their socks off and were rightly recognised in the player ratings, but we'll need to find a way to convert the pressure we're generating into goals.
Nicholas Olsen looking to create a chance
The focus shifts to correcting our dip in form and gathering ourselves for a must-win game against SD Raiders.
