Petratos Strikes Again, but Blacktown Beat Us To The Punch
We returned to Seymour Shaw on Saturday night ready to continue building momentum, but despite a spirited second-half performance and a goal from Maki Petratos, we were edged 2-1 by a well-drilled Blacktown City side.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Lachlan Campbell met a deep cross and guided it back across goal, and shortly after, Adam Berry added a second with a precise strike into the top corner. They started sharper and capitalised in key moments, but we showed plenty of resolve to stay in the contest.
Danijel Nizic was outstanding once again, making several superb saves that kept the scoreline within reach heading into the break. After the restart, we lifted. Our intensity was better, our movement more direct, and our belief clear.
The introduction of fresh legs, including Petratos, proved vital. After some pinball in the box, Maki calmly buried his chance to halve the deficit. From that moment, we took control. Blacktown looked uncomfortable and were pushed deep as we searched for the leveller.
Maki’s scoring form continues
Unfortunately, the momentum swung when Lachlan Fields was shown a second yellow midway through the half. Down to ten men, we were forced to dig even deeper. The effort was there, the hunger was evident, and despite the numerical disadvantage, we never stopped asking questions.
While the result hurt, our second-half display showed character, cohesion, and a squad beginning to gel. Our new signings are settling in well, and we’re close to turning performances into points.
That journey continues this Saturday as we welcome Wollongong Wolves to Seymour Shaw in what is shaping up to be a defining fixture in our season.
We need the Shire behind us for this one.
