Ikko's Stunner & Late Heartbreak In Thriller At Home
It was another fiercely competitive clash with Sydney United 58 at Seymour Shaw on Saturday, but unfortunately, it ended in heartbreak, as a late winner saw us go down 2-1.
The opening ten minutes were scrappy, with plenty of fouls disrupting the rhythm for both sides. United saw more of the ball early, but neither goalkeeper was troubled as the match struggled to find a flow.
That changed in the 14th minute when we broke the deadlock through a moment of magic. From a corner, Ikko Ehode Arimoto produced a brilliant bicycle kick with his back to goal, floating the ball over the keeper and defenders to give us our first league goal in nine matches. It was a sensational finish that gave the home crowd a well-earned celebration.
Ikko with a stunning bicycle kick to give us the early lead.
United responded with intent and began to build momentum. Danijel Nizic was called into action, turning away a long-range effort before Jennings put away in the equaliser in the 25th minute.
We thought we’d gone behind soon after, but Patrick Antelmi’s strike was ruled out for offside. United finished the half strong, forcing a goal-line clearance from Mason Fernandez and applying constant pressure, but we held firm to go into the break at 1-1.
The second half resumed at pace, with United going close and Lachlan Fields heading just over for us from a corner. As the game wore on, both sides pushed for a winner in an end-to-end battle.
Mo Ahmed made a crucial block to deny Antelmi, while Nizic was outstanding again, producing multiple saves, including one down low from a corner, that kept us in the game.
Despite our resilience, the decisive blow came in the 87th minute. A deep cross from the right found Matthew Hatch, who rifled the ball home to put United in front.
We threw everything forward in stoppage time, but couldn’t find the equaliser before the final whistle. It was a tough loss to take after such a committed performance.
With Manly United up next—a side we beat 3-0 earlier this season—we’ll be looking to bounce back at home and get back to winning ways. The belief is still strong, and we know we have the fight to turn things around.
