Our Australia Cup Run Ends As We Go Down To Manly United

Hahn Australia Cup | Round 5

We're out of the Australia Cup after a 2-1 defeat to Manly United on Tuesday night, a result that hurts given how much we threw at them in the second half. It was a game of missed chances. We put the pressure on, but just couldn’t convert.

Manly got on the scoresheet on the half hour and never really relinquished control from there. Despite our best efforts to get a foothold in the contest, we went into the break with work to do.

Brendan Gan gave us a lifeline on 70 minutes, converting to make it 2-1 and set up what felt like a grandstand finish. From that point we pushed hard, created chances, and put them under real pressure. Manly sealed it with a late goal to end our hopes, but for a long stretch of that second half, you felt the equaliser was coming. The ability to convert in big moments is something we know we need to sharpen, and last night was another reminder of that.

One genuine bright spot was the senior debut of Lukas Webber, who came on and injected real energy when we needed it most. He showed exactly the right attitude and will be better for the experience.

The Australia Cup chapter closes at Round 5. Our focus now turns fully to the league, and there's plenty to play for.

We'll see you this Saturday for our game against Marconi Stallions at 4pm.
