Three In A Row: We Climb Into The Top Six With Derby Win Over St George
NPL NSW Men's | Round 18
Three wins on the trot and into the top six for the first time this season. It was a hard-fought 2-1 derby victory at Barton Park on Saturday evening, and one that felt earned every step of the way.
St George started the brighter side and pushed us early, but we grew into the contest and took the lead just before half-time through a moment that will stick in the memory. Ryley Hollingdale, who has been putting in extra work on his set pieces for weeks, stepped up from 25 yards and curled a free-kick into the top-left corner. Inch-perfect. Nicholas Sorras had no chance.
St George hit back just before the hour when Jayden Seeto rose to head home and level things up at 1-1. Credit to them, they kept pushing. But with 10 minutes to go, Richard Shoueiki found the bottom-left corner to make it 2-1 and seal the three points. His fifth goal of the season, and another big one.
In a game that opened up in the second half, we had Danjiel Nizic to thank for keeping us in it. He faced 13 shots, 6 on target, and 14 corners across the 90 minutes. At 1-0 up, he denied Jaden Casella with a brilliant tip onto the crossbar that kept us ahead at the break. It was the kind of performance that wins matches as much as any goal.
Nizic took the Man of the Match award, with Hollingdale deservedly second. A good afternoon for the Sharks all round.
