Paul Reid Expands Role With Joey’s Appointment
We’re proud to share some exciting news, our Head of Youth Football, Paul Reid, has been appointed as Assistant Coach to Carl Veart with the Joeys, Australia’s U17 national football team.
Paul’s first camp with the Joeys will run from 6–17 September in Niigata, Japan, as preparations begin for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Jordan later this year. The team will also compete in the 27th International Youth Football Tournament, taking on Japan, Wales and a Niigata Select XI.
For Paul, the appointment is a dream come true.
“Representing your country at the U17 level is the first big step for our young footballers. To play a part in shaping and developing these players is an incredible honour,” Paul said.
“I’ve always had a passion for youth development, so being able to help shape the lives of aspiring footballers in the Shire and now on the national stage is something really special.”
Paul also highlighted the opportunity to learn alongside Joeys Head Coach, Carl Veart.
“Working with Carl is a huge chance for me to grow as a coach. What I learn there I’ll bring straight back to strengthen the program we’re building here at the Sharks. My commitment to the club is unwavering. This experience will only help us go to another level.”
Importantly, Paul will continue in his role focused on Youth Football at Sutherland Sharks FC. His national team duties complement his work at the club, ensuring that our youth development program remains a major focus while also benefiting from the experience he gains on the international stage.
Everyone at Sutherland Sharks congratulates Paul on this exciting appointment. We’re looking forward to seeing the impact he makes both with the Joeys and here at home.
