Petratos Scores Again, but Weather Cuts Olympic Clash Short
After last week’s vital win over Western Sydney Wanderers, we came into Sunday’s clash against Sydney Olympic full of belief and ready to keep building momentum. But Mother Nature had other plans.
Our Round 20 fixture at Belmore Sports Ground was abandoned in the 73rd minute due to lightning and wild weather, with the score at 2-1 in favour of Olympic. The remainder of the match will be played at a later date. You can keep updated on that news via the Football NSW website.
It was a frustrating end to a game we knew still had plenty of twists left in it. We started the afternoon brightly, with Maki Petratos continuing his red-hot form. He pounced on a defensive slip in the 7th minute, calmly slotting it into the bottom corner to make it three goals in two games.

Olympic levelled not long after, capitalising on a rare error in midfield to work a tidy equaliser. Despite a couple of close calls from the home side, we nearly retook the lead through Mason Fernandez, only for their keeper to smother the chance.
The hosts edged ahead early in the second half, but we were far from done. The boys were still pushing hard and showing plenty of grit when the match was paused due to lightning in the 73rd minute, and eventually called off altogether.
It’s a hard one to take. We felt like there was still something in the game for us, and the group was ready to fight until the final whistle. But the safety of players, officials, and fans always comes first.
We’ll reset and look ahead to another big challenge this Saturday at home against St George FC. We’re hungry, we’re building, and we’re not done yet.
Up the Sharks! 🦈
